Mayor’s Minutes: Osseo’s Duane Poppe
Osseo Mayor Duane Poppe spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser to recap the Lion’s Roar and 150th Anniversary events along with updates about repairs to city buildings.
The parade, which was September 6, went off without much problem except for some rain at the every tail end of the event. Poppe said the rain also forced the city to reschedule its planned 150th Anniversary event at Boerboom Park, and he said that would be rescheduled soon to include as many people as possible.
“I can’t say enough the time the city staff, the Lions, all the 150th anniversary celebration put in,” said Mayor Poppe. “It was just phenomenal. It brings the community together, the parade was great.”
The 150th Anniversary Committee also published a book of photos and historical recollections, and it’s been available at many downtown Osseo businesses for a few months now.
“That book is phenomenal,” said Poppe. “It really is the quintessential history book of the city of Osseo. The photos, the stories, it really adds the flavor of what Osseo is.”
The cost of the book is a $20.00 donation to the anniversary committee.
City Facilities Repairs
Poppe said to expect some minor roof repairs and other installations at city hall and the public works facility.
“We just don’t the bonding capacity to build a new facility,” he said. “So we really have to secure what we have here. So, roofs and life safety stuff.”
He said there will be security cameras installed at city hall, along with keyless entries to many doors and more fire panels.
