Mayor’s Minutes: New Hope’s John Elder
New Hope Mayor John Elder recently spoke with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about changes to curbside organics recycling and changes at West Metro Fire District.
The city, along with the other three cities in the Hennepin Recycling Group (Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, and Crystal) will offer curbside organics recycling collection starting in April.
“We found that a number of haulers were charging various amounts. It was causing a lot of challenges at city hall, so we’re following the best practice in going to unified collections,” said Elder. “It will reduce the number of trucks on our streets.”

Chief Sarah Larson will retire from West Metro Fire Rescue District this year.
He also talked about changes at the top of West Metro Fire Rescue District, which covers New Hope and Crystal. Longtime Chief Sarah Larson will retire at the end of this year, and Assistant Chief Josh Kunde will take her place.

West Metro Fire Rescue District Assistant Chief Josh Kunde will become chief.
“We look forward to getting Josh in, full-time, as our chief,” said Elder.
