Mayor’s Minutes: Maple Grove’s Mark Steffenson
Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about a variety of topics, including upcoming elections.
Steffenson reminded voters that two city council seats are on the November 5 ballot in the city, and reminded them that the city will have expanded hours for early voting ahead of Election Day, including 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, November 2 and 3.
“If you haven’t voted and you wanted to vote absentee, you can,” Steffenson said.
He also took time to mention new businesses of all sizes opening in the city, including MSI, opening a new showroom near the gravel mining area.
“It’s a big, commercial operation that really focuses on countertop and granite,” he said.
Grackle also recently opened in the heart of the commercial district.
“It’s an independent family restaurant, and I know that’s something people want,” Steffenson said.
As for the on-going construction at the Maple Grove Community Center, Steffenson noted work being done already on the third ice sheet, and the fact that the city is looking ahead to phase two. That would involve purchasing the Lifetime Fitness space and expanding the community center’s offerings.
“We’re hopeful to have that done by year’s end,” he said.
Finally, Steffenson noted the recent move by the Minneapolis Elks Lodge #44, which will now hold its meetings at a space on Hemlock Lane.
“I think that (the Elks) really contribute to the community as a whole,” said Steffenson. “They help people out when they’re struggling, when they’re in difficulty, and they really help to provide a sort of sense of community to everyone.”
