Mayor’s Minutes: Golden Valley’s Roslyn Harmon
Golden Valley Mayor Roslyn Harmon spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about recent hires at city hall, historic swearings-in for the police department, and upcoming opportunities for residents to weigh in regarding development.
New Faces at City Hall
The city recently welcomed Michael Ryan as the new city engineer and Lyle Hodges, formerly employed with the City of Minneapolis, as the new city finance director.
Additionally, the Golden Valley Police Department swore in its first Somali-American officer and its first African-American female patrol officer.
“We’ve been dealing with a lot of historical moments lately both the police chief as well as myself with mayor,” Harmon told Kiser.
Fire Department Location
The city continues its search for a new location for a second fire station. Harmon told Kiser that the city did have four sites, but none of them panned out.
“We’re working closely with our fire department and our fire staff to figure out exactly where we should be,” she said. “The need is to be close to Highway 100, to be close to both areas (of the city).”
Downtown Redevelopment
Work continues after a study in 2021 helped the city start to identify ways to improve development in its downtown core, or the area immediately around city hall and between Golden Valley Road and Highway 55.
The city continues to host open houses and public information sessions about its efforts.
