Mayor’s Minutes: Crystal’s Jim Adams
Crystal Mayor Jim Adams spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about his upcoming retirement from public office.
Adams announced earlier this spring he would not run again for re-election in November. He’s spent 12 years as mayor and has also been a firefighter with West Metro Fire-Rescue District for 16 years.
“I’m going to be shifting a lot of focus on my business, creating a new business to walk alongside my residential recovery business,” Adams said. “It’s going to be called WeReckognize, and it’s going to help people kind of put their lives back together in that realm.”
Adams said a lot has changed in the city since he came into office, and a lot of it he’s very proud of.
“The biggest thing I think people think of is we don’t do bonding anymore. We’ve completely revamped our budgeting process. Our ordinances have been completely gone through and updated,” he said. “We’ve created quite a bit of stability in the last 12 years in Crystal. We’ve come form a place where we didn’t work well together. That’s flip-flopped. We have a really good team in Crystal. It’s been a great journey.”
Crystal Frolics
Crystal’s big summer festival, Crystal Frolics, is back July 25-28.
“There’s a lot of community building there,” said Adams. He mentioned there would be more than just softball tournaments scheduled this year, and he was looking forward to playing pickleball in a tournament.
Night to Unite
Crystal will hold its annual Night to Unite event on Tuesday, August 6. It’s a chance for neighborhoods to have block parties and for law enforcement and other public safety to circulate to those parties and interact with residents.
“Individually, you get to reach out to your neighbors that are closest to you,” said Adams. “From a city perspective, it makes us a stronger city if we know our neighbors.”
