Mayor’s Minutes: Brooklyn Park’s Hollies Winston
Brooklyn Park Mayor Hollies Winston spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about the upcoming Blue Line municipal consent decision and other events this fall, including the general election.
Blue Line Extension
Cities in the northwest suburbs, including Brooklyn Park, continue to weigh municipal consent for the extension of Metro Transit’s Blue Line light rail from Target Field to the Target corporate campus off Highway 610 and Broadway.
“It’s incredibly important to spurring development, both north and south, east to west for our city,” said Mayor Winston. “We need that to being to push down those property taxes.”
Election Season
A number of Brooklyn Park City Council seats are up for election, along with state seats and the presidential election. Early voting for the November 5 general election begins on Friday, September 20 at City Hall.
Operations and Maintenance Open House
The city’s public works department will host an open house at its facility off 85th Avenue North and Noble Avenue North on Saturday, September 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
“I think that’s important for people to see how we clean our streets and so much of the maintenance and work we do,” said Winston. “That’s incredibly important for staff, but it’s a fun way for people to see the equipment they use.”
