Mayor’s Minutes: Brooklyn Center’s April Graves
Brooklyn Center Mayor April Graves stopped by CCX Media for her first interview with Dave Kiser in 2024.
Right away, she talked about the city council’s recent decision about a possible sales tax to fund improvements at the city’s community center.
“The voters will decide whether or not the sales tax takes effect and whether we’ll be able to do these upgrades,” she said. Graves said possible improvements could include several new gymnasiums–in hopes of attracting teams from out of town or out of state to participate in tournaments–an indoor play area for kids, a teen lounge, a walking track, and improvements to swimming pools, locker rooms, and staff office space.
Graves also touted the fire department’s plans to celebrate its 75th anniversary this year. A group of volunteers formed the Brooklyn Center Fire Department in 1949.
She also said city council will continue discussing more goals for the year and she also said she and other leaders look forward to working with state and federal lawmakers on legislative priorities to benefit Brooklyn Center in 2024.
