Maple Grove Police Chief Eric Werner Cites Lower Crime Stats for 2025
Maple Grove Police Chief Eric Werner said preliminary crime data for the department last year showed declines across the board. Also, one focus his officers will have in this new year is awareness about e-bike safety.
For 2025, Werner said overall property and violent crime were both down significantly in 2025 compared to the year before.
“We engage our community. We’ve got phenomenal relationships with our partners, so when a crime does take place, we use all resources, whether it’s preventative or reactive, through our enforcement efforts,” said Werner during one of his regular Chat With The Chief segments on CCX Cities.
He also touted lower vehicle thefts and what appears to be zero catalytic converter thefts in the city in 2025.
“We were at 80 (in on year) at one point,” said Werner. “The legislation helped, so you can’t just go in and turn in a catalytic converter. Usually we don’t have more than one of those. And so, with the legislative change and, obviously, our prevention work and our awareness, really helped out.”
E-Bike Safety
One focus for the department in 2026 will be educating residents about e-bike safety.
“We’re a big city with trails, so there’s a lot of recreational opportunities within our city,” said Werner. “E-bikes, that’s the newest technology in our community across the country. We just want those that use it to know that they have to operate safely.”
He said the speed of some of the higher-end models of e-bikes may be faster than some people realize, and that can be dangerous both for the rider(s) and those who are on the trails at the same time.
“We want everybody to enjoy that technology,” said Werner. “We just want them to do it safely, for them operating it but also all the people that are on the trails and the roads around them.”
