Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson Outlines Two Major Legislative Priorities for 2026
Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson laid out the cities two legislative priorities when lawmakers return to St. Paul for the 2026 session: funding for the Highway 169/Elm Creek Boulevard interchange and rebates on construction materials related to the on-going community center expansion and construction.
169/Elm Creek
“We’re looking to complete that funding,” Mayor Steffenson told CCX Media’s Dave Kiser. “We think we’ll be able to get that done this year.”
The outdated intersection is right along the border with Brooklyn Park and serves a critical area of Maple Grove, Steffenson said.
“We’re bringing thousands of jobs into that area, and it needs to work from a transportation standpoint,” he said. “The bridge, right now, is damaged, as well, so it’s limited capacity, so a whole bunch of factors have come together to really insist that the legislature get this done.”
Community Center
Steffenson said a rebate on construction materials could go a long way for the city.
“That is several million dollars, and that is significant in that project,” he said.
The Community Center expansion is nearly completed Phase One, which mainly includes the addition of a third ice sheet and facilities alongside it.
“(The third rink is) going to be open before the end of the year,” said Steffenson. “We’re excited for it to be open. The parts that they do have done right now look beautiful.”
