Maple Grove Community Center Expansion On Tap for Late Summer
Maple Grove Community Center’s planned expansion–paid for a by a half-cent sales tax that took effect nearly a year ago–will begin construction later this summer.
Parks and Recreation Director Chuck Stifter said the construction will begin sometime after Maple Grove Days ends. He stressed that the Community Center will remain open and guests can still use the swimming pool, hockey arena, and other indoor amenities.
“There will be some navigation you’ll have to do, and we’ll get that all laid out and make sure people can safely come and go from the campus,” he said.
Stifter did want to remind residents that certain amenities outside will not be available once construction begins on the western side of the existing building.
“The Lions playground, the Lions pavilion, the skate park, all those things will go away,” said Stifter. “The playground and pavilion are currently planned to be rebuilt on this campus, and the skate park, we’re still trying to find a home for that. We’ll go through a feasibility study through the park board over the next year and hopefully find a home for that.”
Stifter said the construction should take about a year, with a targeted completion date of September 2025.
