Crystal’s Bassett Creek Dog Park Features Large, Small Dog Parks in Shaded Areas
The city of Crystal took resident feedback and opened two dog parks in Bassett Creek Park where dogs and roam without a leash. One park is for large dogs and the other is for small dogs. The park features a trail, benches, and a water spigot with a washable bowl to water your pup.
“It’s an exciting time in Crystal. We’ve had one dog park for many years and through a planning process over the last five years, we’ve developed two dog parks,” said John Elholm, Crystal Recreation Director. “In 2017, we did a park system master plan and we looked at all the parks and amenities in the parks and really the need for a different dog park came out of that process. So we spent the last five years working on planning for that and as we looked at the design. The public had a lot of input on what the final product is.”
Park goers will notice the large, shaded area for dogs as well as a handicapped accessible trail that goes around the perimeter of each dog park. There are also benches with concrete pads, so someone in a wheelchair can sit alongside someone on a bench.
Pet owners are urged to pick up after their pets, as the park’s namesake, Bassett Creek is nearby. The city worked with the watershed for signage to protect the Creek as well as nearby wetlands.
“Runoff does go into the creek, so it’s important to pick up after your pet,” said Elholm.
