Crystal Mayor: “We’re just trying to create a nice, welcoming downtown”
Crystal Mayor Julie Deshler talked with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser a little bit more about the city’s Town Center Vision Plan.

The intersection of Bass Lake Road and Broadway in Crystal, the heart of the city’s shopping and dining district.
“We’re just trying to create a nice, welcoming downtown area that brings in, just by zoning ordinances, just kind of changes the complexion of what we want it to look like in the next 10, 15, 20, 25 years,” said Mayor Deshler.
The plan is likely to be officially adopted by city council this month, and it lays out zoning and other guidelines for how the area along Bass Lake Road between the Crystal Shopping Center on the west and Bottineau Boulevard on the east is developed, and, in some cases, redeveloped.
“Healthy, vibrant communities don’t happen by chance. It takes planning and we just want to see our community, our downtown area have more walkability, have some restaurants along the sidewalk, so people can enjoy some outdoor dining,” said Deshler.
