Crystal Mayor Julie Deshler Talks Budget Approval and Strategic Planning
Mayor Julie Deshler said she understands and appreciates resident feedback over the city’s recent approval of its 15.8% levy increase for the 2026 city budget.

“The people that came were obviously concerned, and rightfully so,” Mayor Deshler recently told CCX Media’s Dave Kiser. “We want to be mindful of the financial impacts on them, but at the same time we need to be able to deliver quality core city services and infrastructure to our community.”
She also reflected on city council’s on-going strategic planning process, something residents will also be able to weigh in on in 2026.
“We’re just trying to plan and look ahead so that we can continue to provide a nice, comfortable quality of life for our community,” said Deshler.
Another new endeavor for the city in 2026 will be adoption of a climate action plan, thanks in part to a $50,000 grant.
“We’re going to set some parameters what we want our climate action plan to look like,” said Deshler. “It will guide how our community plans for climate impacts, strengthens resilience, and supports a sustainable future.”
