Brooklyn Park to Host Public Engagement Sessions About Northwest Development
City of Brooklyn Park leaders continue to study best development options and procedures for hundreds of acres of open land in the northwest corner of the city.
“This study is going to focus on all of those 700 acres. There are also 245 acres that are going to be dedicated to bio-tech development,” said Senior Planner Erin McDermott. “But this study will focus on the entire thing, including our utility placement, land use, comp plan amendments.”
City leaders want to hear from the public about how to best approach development options in the northwest corner.
“We are going to be holding three public engagement sessions, in-person. That will be in about the month of December and early January to make sure everybody has the opportunity for feedback,” said McDermott. “The city is also working on a website so that people who are unable to make it in person are able to provide that feedback in any means that they feel comfortable.”
She said the public’s input is critical to making sure the city can maximize its tax base options and really provide development that enhances what residents and businesses want and need.
“We really want to know what’s important to the residents, and throughout the process there’s going to be additional opportunities for engagement,” said McDermott. “We have public hearing requirements for each step of the way, so within those three public engagement and there’s more technical abilities down the road.”
