Brooklyn Center Re-Launches Adopt-A-Park Program
Brooklyn Center has re-launched its Adopt-A-Park program and hopes more people will take the opportunity to organize widespread park clean-ups.
“The application is online, you sign up, you chose the times and dates when you want to go and do your clean-up event, and you coordinate with our public works department as well as the community center to arrange the pickup for the supplies,” said Joe Cardoza, the city’s communications manager. “Littering is costly to the cities. We hire seasonal workers to try to help maintain our parks, but we do rely on our volunteers to help clean up because we have such limited staff.”
The city provides tools (grabbers, trash bags, gloves) inside a locker that’s located just inside the community center, adjacent to Centennial Park. Cardoza said staff asks that anyone interested try to coordinate pick-up of materials at least five days prior to a scheduled clean-up event. The public works department can be reached at 763-585-7100.
“Brooklyn Center is moving in a very hopeful direction, and we’re excited because this helps evolve that sense of community and that sense of ownership here for our city,” said Cardoza.
