Ted Brill Great 8 Showcases Prep Hockey Talent
The Ted Brill Great 8 boys hockey series celebrated its 30th year this weekend, showcasing some of the state’s top talent from the classes of 2025 and 2026.
Sixteen games were played Friday through Sunday in South St. Paul with players from around the state.
The first game of the tournament featured the Senior Sections 2 and 6 team whose roster included Logan Gatti and Lewis Majkozak of Armstrong/Cooper, Noah Johnson and Cam Kirschner of Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Ben Amato of Breck, Jesse Varner from Providence Academy and Hopkins’ Weston Schenkelberg. The Senior Sections 4 and 5 team included just one local player- Evan Long of Champlin Park.
Long, Majkozak and Schenkelberg were among the goal scorers in the game, won by Section 2/6 5-3.
The Section 7/8 team won the Senior division with a record of 3-1 record.
The Section 2/6 18 team (Class of 2026) won their division with a 4-0 record. That team featured Wayzata’s Eli Molde, who scored six goals and added two assists in four games, plus Mason Minor of Benilde-St. Margaret’s (0 goals, 6 assists) and Hobey Skulstad of Armstrong/Cooper (2 goals, 3 assists).
