Wayzata Football Loses Late vs. Prior Lake
The Wayzata football team lost its first game since 2018 as Prior Lake rallied for a 29-28 win in the season opener for both teams.
The Lakers scored with 3:37 to play in the fourth quarter on Tyler Shaver’s third touchdown of the game. Prior Lake then converted on a two-point conversion on a pass from Kyle Haas to Tanner Newlin.
The Trojans, undefeated Class 6A champions in 2019, led 21-7 at halftime and 28-21 in the fourth quarter until the Lakers’ final drive.
Wayzata junior wide receiver Julian Diedrich caught 11 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns from quarterback Ryan Harvey. The Trojans missed a 31 yard field goal with six seconds left that would have won them the game.
