Wayzata edges BSM in girls hockey playoffs
Section 6AA is usually one of the best girls hockey sections in Minnesota, and the addition of Blake this year has made the section even tougher.
Wayzata earned the No. 3 seed and the Trojans faced a challenge from No. 6 seed Benilde-St. Margaret’s Saturday at Parade Ice Garden. The Red Knights took a 2-1 lead before Wayzata tied it in the second period, then took the lead for good later in the second on a shorthanded breakaway goal by Gretchen Branton.
The Trojans outshot Benilde 41-11 but had to hold on for the win.
Wayzata meets No. 2-seed Blake in the second semifinal Wednesday at Parade Ice Garden. No. 1-seed Edina plays Cretin-Derham Hall in the first semifinal.
