WAYZATA BEATS ROCHESTER MAYO IN STATE GIRLS TENNIS

Wayzata received the No. 5 seed for the state Class AA girls tennis tournament. The Trojans knocked off No. 4 seed Rochester Mayo in the quarterfinals, sweeping the doubles matches while taking three of the four singles contests. The Trojans reward for the win is a semifinal match against No. 1 seed Edina. The Hornets had their string of 19 consecutive state titles snapped at last year’s tournament by eventual champion Mahtomedi. Wayzata and Edina play at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Baseline Tennis Center. The championship is at 4 p.m. Wednesday, also at Baseline.
