Terry Tuma Tip: Gear Ratios for Reels
In this week’s CCX Fishing Tip Hall of Fame angler Terry Tuma talks about choosing the right gear ratio for bait-casting reels.
The gear ratio of a reel is measured by how many times the spool turns for each single turn of the handle.
Terry says the right gear ratio is all about technique and baits. If you want something slow, or a fast retrieve- or somewhere in between can depend on what species of fish you are trying to hook and how you are fishing it.
