State High School League Sets Possible Start Dates for Winter Sports
The Minnesota State High School League’s Board of Directors on Thursday approved three possible start dates for winter prep sports.
The earliest date would be December 21st, three days after the state’s four-week shutdown of youth and high school sports ends in one of the attempts to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota.
Governor Walz could extend the “pause” in sports and so the League has also set January 4th and January 18th as possible dates for the beginning of winter sports, with reduced game schedules.
If practices do begin on the December 21st, games could start as early as January 4th. Dance Team practices began before the November shutdown but none of the other winter activities had started yet.
The League also hopes to conduct state tournaments for all winter sports– a change from the fall in which no state competitions were held.
