Section 5 Alpine Skiing
The Section 5 alpine ski meet went on in snowy conditions Thursday at Afton Alps.
A strong contingent of skiers from the northwest suburbs qualified for state at the meet.
Marta Pendergast of Wayzata took third place and was the top local girl.
Deirdre O’Neill of Hopkins was fifth.
Sarah Hoffman of Hopkins, Kendall Riskevich and Lindsey Fernandez of Breck, and Kendall Quall of NW Alpine also advanced.
Orono won the girls team title with second place team Minnetonka also qualifying for state.
On the boys side, Breck’s Sam Shideman was third.
West Lutheran’s Joshua Nelson and Northwest Alpine’s Blake Quall also cracked the top ten.
Lincoln Hatlestad and Jens Dohse of Hopkins also qualified for state.
Minnetonka and St. Cloud are the boys team qualifiers.
