Minnesota High School, Youth Sports on “Pause”
Minnesota high school sports will be put on hold for four weeks, beginning Friday at 11:59 p.m.
The announcement came from Governor Tim Walz Wednesday evening as the state looks to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Pandemic case and hospitalization numbers continue to rise at an alarming rate in the state and the pause in high school and youth sports is just one of several new restrictions and guidelines put forth by the Governor.
It means an end to the high school football and volleyball seasons. The football section playoffs will end early with many sections scrambling to move scheduled Saturday playoff games to Thursday or Friday.
There will be no section playoffs for volleyball teams, originally scheduled to begin on December 1st.
It also means a delay to the start of winter sports team practices and seasons. Dance teams started practices last week but now those workouts will be put on hold for the next four weeks.
