Minnesota American Legion Baseball Canceled for 2020
For the first time since its beginnings in the 1920’s, American Legion baseball in Minnesota will see its season canceled. Ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and the safety of players, umpires and fans led to the decision.
The announcement came Saturday from Minnesota American Legion Baseball Director Randy Schaub.
“Safety has always been important in American Legion Baseball,” said Schaub in a statement. “As much as we wanted to play this year, we cannot take chances with the players, coaches and fans we oversee.”
In April the national-level organization canceled the American Legion Baseball World Series, scheduled for August.
Over 350 teams were registered to play this summer in Minnesota.
