Maple Grove Girls Basketball Advances to State with OT Win
The Maple Grove girls basketball team advanced to the state tournament Thursday night, winning a thriller 59-56 in overtime over St. Michael-Albertville to capture the Section 8AAAA title.
It was a back and forth game all night, with Maple Grove leading by one at halftime.
After STMA grabbed a one-point lead, Maple Grove freshman Jordyn Lamker hit a big three-pointer to put the Crimson up 50-48.
Whitney Dold answered with a big play for the Knights, getting a steal and layup to tie the game 50-50 to force overtime.
Autumn Mlinar hit a three to start the scoring in the overtime period and the Crimson never gave up the lead from there on the way to their first section title since 2011.
Lamker had 18 points, Mlinar 16, and Katrina Theis 12 for the Crimson.
