Cooper Girls Basketball Team Wins Tourney Opener
The Cooper girls basketball team won its state tournament opener.
The Hawks beat Austin 72-40 in the class AAA quarterfinals.
Cooper used an 11-3 run late in the first half to build a 40-24 halftime lead.
The Hawks’ lead grew to 30 midway through the second half.
Aja Wheeler had 22 points to lead Cooper.
The defending champion Hawks lost 68-66 to Becker in the semifinals.
