CCX Sports Year in Review: Maple Grove Boys Basketball Wins Thriller on Final Night of Season
With speculation growing that the season was about to be shut down due to the COVID-19 virus, the Maple Grove boys basketball team ended on a memorable note.
On March 12, the Crimson faced Buffalo for the Section 8AAAA championship at a packed Monticello High School gym.
The game turned into a thriller.
Maple grove dominated early, building a double digit lead in the first half. They led by eight at halftime.
Buffalo came roaring back in the second half, surging into the lead behind sharpshooter Matt Willert.
The game went back and forth down the stretch before RaShaun Parker hit the biggest shot of the game.
The Maple Grove guard buried a three-pointer to give his team the lead 54-52 in the final minute.
Buffalo had a couple of shots late that wouldn’t fall and Maple Grove held on for the win.
The season was shut down the next day, with the state tournament canceled.
That part was disappointing, but Maple Grove at least got to end on a high note on an unforgettable night.
