Barber, Renner Hope for NFL Calls
Plymouth’s Thomas Barber and Maple Grove’s Sam Renner both finished their college football careers at the University of Minnesota with an Outback Bowl win over Auburn on January 1st.
Now each is hoping to either be drafted or earn a free agent tryout with a National Football League team as the annual NFL Draft approaches this week.
Barber, a 2016 Armstrong High School graduate, played linebacker and was a three-year starter for the Gophers. Renner, a 2015 Maple Grove High School grad, played defensive line at Minnesota but didn’t become a starter until 2019. Both players have been in touch with NFL teams via phone with no workouts or face-to-face interviews allowed by the league in the last month.
The Draft begins Thursday and continues through Saturday.
