Woman Killed in Maple Grove House Fire
A late-night fire call for Maple Grove firefighters turned tragic Wednesday night.
Firefighters responded to a home in the 10600 block of Lancaster Lane North just after 10 p.m. where a woman died as a result of the fire, officials said.
Neighbors and property records identify the victim as Theresa Nichols, who was in her 70s.
Neighbors who spoke to CCX News say they would come over to mow her lawn after they noticed she needed help.
“I guess my dad just might have come over one time, when her lawn was so bad,” said Tom Fisher. “The grass was all the way up to my knees.”
Fisher said he and his dad had been mowing Nichols’ lawn every Monday for the past two months.
She would greet them every time.
“We just had a nice conversation with her,” said Fisher. “She was very friendly and always gave us water and stuff. Just very, very nice.”
When Fisher and his father saw Nichols on Monday, Fisher said she was not in good health.
“My dad and her were talking by my dad’s truck over here and she fell down, and then my dad called the paramedics because he thought something was wrong, and they took her in the ambulance,” said Fisher.
Fisher said they released her from the hospital on Wednesday. The fire happened later that day.
For Fisher, the loss of his neighbor brought tears to his eyes.
“She was really happy, just very funny, had a lot of stories. I’ll miss talking to her.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though Maple Grove fire officials said it started in the kitchen.
