With Poor Road Conditions, State Patrol Asks Drivers to Slow Down
With hundreds of motorists crashing their cars in the past two days, the Minnesota State Patrol is asking drivers to slow down.
“We’ve had a very mild winter, so the snow is just a reminder that we need to remember what it’s like to drive in Minnesota,” said Lt. Jill Frankfurth with the Minnesota State Patrol.
Between Midnight on Sunday, March 24 and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday March 26, there’s been 624 car crashes state-wide. That’s according to Minnesota State Patrol data.
About six inches of snow fell Sunday night, resulting in poor road conditions.
On Tuesday, road conditions worsened after overnight rain turned to ice and snow.
Frankfurth recommended drivers check road conditions online using the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s 511 website before hitting the road.
“Leave yourself extra time, make sure you’re buckling up, and then increase that following distance when you’re out on the road,” Frankfurth said.
Meanwhile, residents can check their city’s website for plowing and snow emergency updates.
