Winter Bird Count Takes Place at Mississippi Gateway Park
For the last 100-plus years, the National Audubon Society has relied on volunteers to count and report the number of birds in its annual Christmas Bird Count, which occurs Dec. 14 to Jan. 5.
Three Rivers Park District is participating too with winter bird count activities offered in local parks.
At the Mississippi Gateway Regional Park, bird enthusiasts are invited to walk through the park in search of birds on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
“It’s a family event. It’s for everyone of all birding abilities. You don’t have to have ever watched birds before,” said Adrian Iacovino, education program coordinator with the Three Rivers Park District.
Collected data will contribute to the national count. You can learn more here.
This event is part of Three Rivers Park District’s Big Year of Birds, where parks have focused on all things birds.
