West Metro Firefighters Surprise Seniors in New Hope
The holidays arrived early for some seniors in New Hope.
The West Metro Fire Department and Home Instead Senior Care teamed up to make the season bright for seniors. On Thursday, they loaded up several trucks full of gifts and other goodies.
Generous folks from the community, along with firefighters, purchased gifts for Home Instead’s Be a Santa to a Senior program. Residents at Good Samaritan in New Hope were happy to see the unexpected gifts.
With tears in her eyes, resident Toots Holland said, “I’m very happy, very happy, for this. I feel like a little kid, no one has ever done this for me.”
Some mature adults do not have anyone to visit or to give them gifts during the holidays. The Be a Santa to a Senior program hopes to take away holiday loneliness.
“I’ve always been in the Christmas spirit and I always will be,” said Holland.
Be a Santa to a Senior volunteers handed out more than 60 presents at that location.
