West Lutheran Student Excels, Pursues Career in Education
Samantha Paul is head and shoulders above her classmates at West Lutheran. Literally.
“I was always the tall kid, so people were like ‘oh are you going to play basketball?'” Samantha said.
But now in her senior year, Paul has played her last game at West Lutheran. But there’s a lot more to Samantha than just basketball.
“I like science most of all, especially the mathematical sciences like chemistry and physics,” she said. “Those are kind of my favorites.”
Samantha has managed to carry a better than 4.0 grade point average. Katie Huebner has enjoyed teaching her both in class and and on the court.
“Sam is one of the hardest working players and students too in our program and in our school here at West Lutheran. She just has an uncanny drive that keeps her motivated all the time,” said Huebner.
Besides excelling in athletics and academics, Samantha has also found an outlet for artistic expression. She has been playing trumpet since seventh grade. After high school, Samantha desires to go into teaching.
“I want to get an elementary education degree and teach anywhere from third to eighth grade. There’s a lot that they don’t know, so there’s a lot that you can teach them, and like, they’re really interested in learning still. They want to know more and they want to learn more,” Samantha said.
Samantha hasn’t decided exactly which college she will attend, but said she’ll be looking for a smaller private Christian college to pursue her degree in education.
