Weekend Showcase: Winning Student Artwork
There is something sure to catch your eye at the Maple Grove Government Center. The best art work done by students of Osseo Area Schools is on display and you may be amazed by what you’ll see.
Maple Grove Arts Center is co sponsoring the show with the Maple Grove History Center. Arts Center founder and CEO Lorrie Link said, “We actually have 99 pieces on easels, and then the rest are 3D pieces laid out on the table like ceramics, and jewelry, and paper machete and whatever they have created.”
Tenth grader, Nyenekon Chea at Maple Grove Senior High was selected by the judges as Best of Show for her self portrait.
“This is actually a project I did for my drawing art class. But, I’ve never done this work before. I’ve never worked with colors,” said Chea. “It was my first time, but I really didn’t know what I was doing and it turned out like this and I’m actually proud of it. I didn’t know I would win first place. It was very unexpected.”
The exhibit features a wide range of styles and mediums. The quality and creativity of the students will amaze you.
Park Center tenth grader Kaylee Fisher took home a well deserved Merit Award.
Fisher said, “My piece is called wonder because I wanted to make it look like she had a dream.”
And photography isn’t even her first love.
“My favorite is actually painting and then I just took photography for fun. I didn’t think it was going to turn into this,” laughed Fisher.
All of the students represented here were first chosen by their respective teachers, then the work was judged again by groups of area teachers before even getting to the District 279 Show at the Government Center.
The Osseo District 279 Art Show is on display at the Maple Grove Government Center through April 13th.
