Weekend Showcase: “The Schroeder Painting Show”
Harvey Schroeder is a retired Elk River area school district art teacher who still gives oil painting lessons. Each year a group of his students have been displaying their art at the Maple Grove Arts Center. You can see what they have created in the “The Schroeder Painting Show.”
Maple Grove Arts Center is not a huge space, so one of the challenges presented by the show was fitting the artwork in the space.
“The amount of artwork we got. This is one of the biggest shows that’s been in here in a long time,” said gallery director Teri Iverson. “I try to group things with like-minded colors and frames just so they don’t pull attention from each other. I want them to be pleasing to the eye when you walk around the gallery. I wanted you to be able to look at one piece at a time and not be distracted.”
Various landscapes dominate the themes, but there is great diversity of style within the landscape category.
All of the pieces you will see are for sale and the official opening night of the show is Thursday, June 6th, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Since the majority of artists are from the northwest metro, many are expected to be present at the opening.
The show runs now through July 12th, and is worth dropping in for a look see.
