Weekend Showcase: Sharpen Your Lumberjack Skills
Ever wanted to test out your lumberjack or lumberjill skills? There’s an opportunity to do so this summer in Plymouth.
Three Rivers Parks District is offering a two-hour program at French Regional Park in Plymouth on July 8 and on August 15.
The program is a chance to step back in time to the logging era and try your hand (or feet) at log rolling and axe throwing.
“Log rolling would have been a very important skill for lumberjacks to be good at because most of them didn’t know how to swim, and the water was really, really cold when they were moving the logs down the river in the spring time,” says Heather Gordon of Three Rivers Parks District.
Three Rivers uses a synthetic Key Log which is portable and filled with fifty gallons of water at the lake to simulate an eleven foot, eight inch, 450 pound cedar log.
The program cost is $12. You can sign up on the Three Rivers Parks website or call 763-559-6700.
Children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
