Weekend Showcase: SOAR Off to Great Places with ‘Seussical Jr.’
The quirky, tongue twisting tales by Dr. Seuss come alive in the musical Seussical Jr. being presented by SOAR Regional Arts this weekend.
“Seussical takes a lot of different Dr. Seuss books and shoves them into one huge production with singing and dancing but the story mostly revolves around ‘Horton Hears a Who,'” says director Sydney Summers.
The cast and crew for this production numbers around 90 and first time director Sydney Summers says it’s fun watching the kids make the story their own.
“I really love giving the kids something to shape and then they get to do all the coloring and they get to explore their characters because it’s such a fun experience for the imagination,” says Summers.
Seussical Jr. will keep audiences entertained with snappy dialogue, fun songs and salty characters but like all of SOAR’s productions there’s meaning behind all the silliness.
“You never need to lose your sense of imagination no matter how old you are or what’s going on in your life,” says Ava Huggins who play Mrs. Mayor.
Performances of Seussical Jr. run through Sunday at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
