Weekend Showcase: Robbinsdale School District Virtual Art Show
Elementary students from Robbinsdale Area Schools are featured each year in an art show at Robbin Gallery. This year, the art show will be all online.
“We knew that we wanted to find a way to feature and honor the work our students have been doing during this incredibly challenging time,” said Emma Withers, an elementary art teacher.
Teachers put a lot of work into creating a virtual art show that easy to navigate and allows participants to see the artwork from each school.
“When I’m teaching my students, we always start our day with checking in and then we say all right let’s hop into the virtual art room,” said Withers. “We open that up and kids are able to see a little cartoon version of me waving at them and a white board.”
The online exhibit can live on indefinitely and distant relatives can have access to the exhibit.
“We can put it into our archives and have it for years to come to be able to reference it,” said Withers. “Students can look back on it for years to come and share it with family members.”
Because of that, Withers believes virtual art shows could be here to stay.
“I truly think this is something that will exist past this COVID, pandemic teaching life as well. We’re finding tools that I think will be long lasting,” said Withers. “I could see many more virtual galleries in the future.”
