Weekend Showcase: Cross Community Players’ “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”
The Cross Community Players produces “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” on stage at Cross Winds United Methodist Church through Feb. 29.
“It’s really about a bunch of misfits,” said Dann Peterson, the director. “They even say in one like that ‘we are a bit bizarre,’ and they are. But I think that it makes us look at those who may be a little different from what we are and learn to accept them…..and their quirks.”
The play is the story of six quirky adolescents competing in the spelling bee, which is run by three equally quirky adults.
“Spelling Bee” first opened off-Broadway in 2005. With actor improvision and audience participation, there’s a different show each night.
“Each audience brings something new and different,” said Alana LaBissoniere, an actor. “And the characters bring something new and different every single night.”
