Weekend Showcase: ‘Brush Pilots’ Land at Robbin Gallery
The Brush Pilots have landed at the Robbin Gallery!
“Brush Pilots is a group of nine artists that has been painting together. We try to paint together weekly. We’ve been painting for ten years. And our common tie is through the Minnesota Watercolor Society,” said Vic Perlbachs, a Brush Pilot and current president of the Minnesota Watercolor Society.
This talented group of dedicated watercolor artists is presenting “Minnesota Journeys.” It’s the Brush Pilots’ seventh show. This year there’s 71 pieces on display.
“There’s happy accidents with watercolor. Which is why watercolor, for me, is a preferred medium,” said Carol Wingard, an active Brush Pilot, as well as historian for the Minnesota Watercolor Society.

Wingard says there’s a story behind every painting.
“This is based on a photo I took of Split Rock Light House. First time I’ve really done something like this. I don’t always do landscapes,” said Wingard of her painting.
“We were up for a long weekend at a lake near Park Rapids. It was last September. So we were lucky to have some really nice weather for the whole time we were there. Sun was setting on this particular night. And it was like red sky at night promising another fabulous day,” said Perlbachs of his painting “Dusk on the Lake.”
Watercolor adds a special feel to landscapes and still life paintings, as well as abstracts. There is a wealth of knowledge among the Brush Pilot members. And if you’re interested in watercolor, they’d love to have you.
“The Minnesota Watercolor Society is great. We have demo artists that come demo once a month during most of the year. We have a news letter. It’s a great organization for sharing information and meeting other artists and learning new things. And it’s great for just sharing knowledge,” said Wingard.
The Robbin Gallery is located at 4915 42nd Avenue N. Robbinsdale, MN 55422. Hours are Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can also make an appointment between shows.
