Weekend Showcase: Brookview Golden Valley Offers Pub Curling
Pub curling is a cross between curling and shuffleboard that is played at Brookview Golden Valley during the winter months. Participants play on artificial ice and use artificial stones. You can join a league to play this winter, or you can just play for fun.
“The object of the game is to get all four of your team’s stones as close to that center button as you can,” said Bretty Johnson, assistant operations manager at Brookview. “In scoring, basically you get one point for every stone you have closest to that center button. So only one team scores. If you’ve got one stone closer than your opponent, you get one point. If you’ve got three stones closer than your opponents you get three points.”
Lawn bowling is a popular warm weather activity at Brookview; the cold weather means pub curling can be offered well into the spring.
“Outside of league times you can reserve a rink. We book them in one-hour increments. You can contact our restaurant or visit our website just for more information on rates, how to book,” said Johnson.
