Fundraiser Successful for Brooklyn Park’s Jim Wagner
Jim Wagner’s restaurant off Highway 81 in Brooklyn Park is a familiar spot for classic car enthusiasts and everyday people alike. For more than two decades customers have come to eat his burgers and on nice summer nights, check out the classic cars that flock to the drive-in. But now Jim is fighting an aggressive form of skin cancer.
The restaurant remains open, but he has not been able to do much of his catering business or open on Sundays. That’s resulted in a more than 40 percent loss of business. That’s where the local car club came in. On October 27th, friends from the Wag-Niters Car Club held a benefit for him. More than 400 people packed the Palmer Lake VFW to support Wagner.
“I was overwhelmed,” said Wagner. “I was beyond shocked. Some of the people I hadn’t seen in 30 years.” Wagner has an uphill battle; he recently got out of the hospital with double pneumonia. He says the funds raised will help with medical bills and loss of business.
If you couldn’t make the fundraiser but would like to help Wagner out, there’s still a Gofundme campaign available here.
