For First-Time Voters, It’s an Election They’ll ‘Never Forget’
Polling places in Brooklyn Park opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Election officials say there were some lines early on, but for the most part, voting was relatively quick and the turnout steady.
For first-time voters who spoke with CCX News, the process has been pretty seamless.
First-Time Voting in Historic Election
Today will be something that Rayan Adem will always remember.
“I feel great. I feel like an adult, like a real adult because I remember I use to come with my mom to vote,” Adem told CCX News.
Although the 18-year-old was a little nervous about voting for the first time, it turned out better than he expected.
“It was actually pretty easy,” says Adem. “I thought it was going to be a long line and I was going to have to wait here for an hour, but I just came in and they helped me real quick and I voted.”
First-time voting was also pretty smooth for Hennepin Tech student Jaclynn Hentges.
“It didn’t take a lot of time either. Nice and quick,” said Hentges.
She said she’s glad she took the time to vote.
“It’s your right,” said Hentges. “You should use it and your vote does matter.”
Some people brought family to witness their first time voting.
Mary Slater voted with her mom and dad.
Slater said she couldn’t have imagined a better source of support to share the experience with.
“It’s a very happy moment for our us,” said Slater. “It’s very surreal almost because I’m 32 and it’s my first time voting and to be able to do with my parents, it’s such a great feeling. “
For these first time-voters, the process was a peaceful one, but voter Mbalu Janneh, formerly from Serria Leone, said in other countries it’s chaotic.
“I hope other countries where we come from can learn from this, so there will be no chaos when voting,” said Janneh. “We just come in and vote and then walk out.”
Voting is something she doesn’t take for granted and encourages everyone to take part in the process of a free election.
“Come out and vote like I always do, I always tell them come out and vote,” said Janneh.
