Elm Creek Elementary Honors Veterans
Veterans Day is a popular time to teach kids what soldiers do for the citizens. Local schools followed that tradition with special celebrations. Elm Creek Elementary in Maple Grove invited veteran family members of students to the school to be recognized.
The Osseo-Maple Grove American Legion talked about the history of Veteran’s Day to students. “I wanted to tell them that the flag is their flag. And through the generations, Americans have fought and died to preserve our freedom. I feel strongly about that and I want to pass that along to the next generation,” said Ken Ruona, the Chaplin of American Legion Post 172.
The program ended with a flag-folding ceremony. It’s the first year Elm Creek has held a veterans program. But the school plans to continue the tradition.
