Veteran Art Show Opens May 19 at Maple Grove Arts Center
A unique art exhibit is being held at the Maple Grove Arts Center. For the first time at the center, the artwork of military veterans will be featured.
“I think it’s important to showcase veterans because I don’t think we give them due diligence in this country,” said Maple Grove Arts Center Founder Lorrie Link. “There’s a lot of groups of people who don’t get the recognition they deserve. I think we have a lot in Maple Grove that we need to showcase.”
A Variety of Art Mediums Featured
The show is called “Still Serving.” There are about 25-30 items in the exhibit—several different mediums features, including oil and watercolor paintings. One artist is displaying fashion designs.
Veteran Kristy Janigo is an artist and helped bring the exhibit to Maple Grove. She says art is a form of therapy for some veterans. She’s hoping the fine arts will bring veteran issues to the forefront.
“I want people to understand that veterans are artists and are extremely talented, and they can express themselves in a variety of ways. But also, I think having something like a public art display like this brings awareness to veteran’s issues,” explained Kristy Janigo.
The Osseo Maple Grove American Legion Post 173 sponsored the exhibit. The event opens at the Maple Grove Arts Center on May 19th and runs through July 29th.
