Update: Golden Valley Police Recover Several Cars Stolen from Shop
Thanks to a tip, police in Golden Valley have recovered several cars that were stolen from an auto shop early Tuesday morning.
According to Police Chief Virgil Green, at around 1:30 a.m., thieves crashed a stolen SUV through through the overhead garage door at Morrie’s Reconditioning Center, located in the 700 block of Colorado Avenue.
The suspects stole a car, then left the scene to pick up additional suspects.
With a larger group of co-conspirators, the suspects stole seven cars, including a high-end 2023 Maserati Ghibli Trofeo. When new, the vehicle lists for approximately $120,000.
“I would say these guys were very organized,” Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green told CCX News after the incident. “This wasn’t just something that, you know, they just popped up and did. So this was an organized group.”
Employees arrived later that morning and found the garage door destroyed.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Golden Valley Police Department has recovered five of those seven vehicles, including the Maserati.
A tipster in north Minneapolis recognized the vehicle and called the police department.
Officers found the vehicle near the intersection of 21st Avenue North and Emerson. They found another three stolen vehicles parked near the Maserati.
Meanwhile, Green told CCX News that thieves pulled a similar heist at a nearby Cadillac dealership.
“I think they might be connected, potentially,” Green said.
Golden Valley Police are continuing to search for the remaining two stolen vehicles.
