Try-It Fishing Event Introduces Families to Ice Fishing
Three Rivers Park District introduced families to ice fishing in a Try-It Fishing event held Saturday, Jan. 25, on Fish Lake in Maple Grove. More than 700 people participated.
“For a lot of our participants today, it is their first time on the ice,” said Nick Sacco with the Three Rivers Park District. “We’re excited to just introduce them to that and that they can be on the ice and it’s a safe thing.”
Sacco said event offered families just a taste of ice fishing. Staff shared tips on equipment, safety and techniques. Participants could practice using the provided equipment, learn how to bait a hook and try to fish. If the fishing wasn’t keeping people occupied, they could warm up by a fire or try kicksledding too.
“On a nice 25-40 degree day with little wind, it’s a great time to get out and enjoy something not many Minnesotans have done,” said Sacco.
