Travel Agents Talk “Travel Tuesday” Deals
Most of us know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But are you familiar with Travel Tuesday?
The promotional holiday happens right after Thanksgiving and it’s a chance to book trips at a low price.
“You can find deals,” affirms Kari Hansen of Travel Leaders in Maple Grove.
The Twin Cities temperature was a frigid 22 degrees on Tuesday, making it easy to fantasize about jetting off to Malibu, Maui, Miami or some other hot spot.
Bargain deals
Hansen found some bargain deals on Travel Tuesday.
“I’ve seen Jamaica at $297 for a January departure,” Hansen said. “It was a five day trip.”
For globetrotters, Travel Tuesday is like Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve combined. Domestic trips go down as much as 25 percent for winter getaways, while some international prices drop 35 percent.
“Princess Cruises for example will offer up to $900 off per cabin,” Hansen said. “There’s a lot of great tour companies. Italy, if you book by November 27th will give you $1,000 off per couple.”
Of course, now that Minnesota is back in the deep freeze, most travelers want to escape to a sun-drenched destination.
“Dominican Republic is always a hot one,” Hansen said. “Jamaica is great as well. Belize and Aruba.”
Personnel touch
According to Hansen, using a travel agency gives people a personnel touch.
“None of my clients travel without my personal cell phone,” Hansen said, who advocates a travel agent’s approach is much more intimate than computer sites like Google, Kayak, or Orbitz. “If you’re stuck in the back of the plane and it’s turning around to come back to Minneapolis, you can call us and by the time you get off the plane we’ll have you re-routed.”
If you are traveling anytime soon and want a low-cost airfare, Hansen says avoid flying over the New Year’s holiday because that’s when prices spike.
