Traffic to Improve Around Park Center
Construction crews are re-configuring traffic flow around Park Center High School and Brooklyn Middle School and adding more sidewalks. There’s been an uptick in traffic to the school and a growing concern for student safety.
“At Park Center High School and Brooklyn Middle School, it’s a large campus and the only campus where we have high school and middle schools combined,” explains Troy Schreifels, director of facilities and transportation operations. “Over the last several years, we’ve seen an increase in traffic both on Brooklyn Boulevard on the front and Noble on the back.”
New roads and new traffic configurations should help alleviate traffic on Brooklyn Boulevard and on Noble Avenues during school start and end times. Crews are also doubling the number of lights around the school. Plus, crews will add sidewalks to make the walk to school a safer one.
“Students are a lot like water. They will take the least resistant way to get to school,” said Schriefels. “We’ve added parking lot curbing and dividers that will control traffic and make it safer for our kiddos.”
The parking lot project is expected to be completed by the end of August. Meanwhile, construction on the new dome is also underway. The dome is expected to be ready for students to use when they return to school in January.
