Three Rivers Parks recognizes Mark Basiletti
For National Volunteer Week, Three Rivers Parks District has named Mark Basiletti one of its Distinguished Volunteer Award recipients.
Three Rivers Parks District has roughly 780 volunteers helping it to administer its programs and manage its more than 27 thousand acres of park land.
Before his retirement, Mark worked as a soil and water conservationist. Five years ago, Mark adopted a particular area of the Elm Creek Park Reserve through the Adopt a Woodlot program. He and his wife liked to hike through the area. Now, he battles invasive species and has sent many buckthorn plants to their demise.
“I’m up here at least one day a week, for three to six hours. When I get real busy I like to put in a couple days, if I can,” said Basiletti.
The Three Rivers Parks District says they couldn’t do all that they do without the 37 thousand hours of volunteer work from their hundreds of volunteers .
